Here I am again! Currently we are very busy with the new house....It's almost done!!!

During the few sparetime I sewed some blocks for my swap partners.

For the 6" swap in December I had two partners and here are the blocks I did for my second partner Janet, she lives in Yukon!!

Civil War quilt work in progress

our fantastic Civil War BOW is finished and all the members of the group are working on the assembling.

I finished all the setting blocks and sewed the groups of 4 blocks together. Here is my probably final layout.

Next week I will sew them together. I still don't know if I quilt by hand or machine.

after Christmas days I'll show you the blocks I have done during the last weeks. But first of all you need to give a look to the finished quilt top "Circle of Friends", done by members of the Civil War block of the week group in Flickr and sewed together, quilted and sent to Barbara Brackman by Becky Brown. November swap and Civil War Quilt

Hi friends,

today I got the new swap partners for December in the 6" group (this month I have two swaps) and the postman brought mail from the USA. Here are the lovely blocks Jen made for me. They are beautiful and go so well with my other blocks.

My Civil War block of the week is almost at his end, just two more Saturdays to go. Here are my last two blocks.

Very enjoyable blocks. Today I cut out all the pieces for the borders and for the last setting block. Tons of 1 1/2" and 2 7/8" blocks!!!

first Sunday in Dezember and it is flea market again!!! Here are the little treasures I found today.

One more bowl, this time a very tiny one, just 4". One lighter for our collection, about 1 1/2". And finally two antique wooden whirligigs, just lovely.

Civil War BOW and Blogger's BOM

yesterday was BOM and BOW day!!! The new block for the Blogger's BOM was published here and this is my version:

Block 48, can you believe it?? Here you can see a possible layout. I took pictures of all my 4 block sets, so i could move them around without loosing the blocks I already decided to have together and that I love as they are. Crazy??

I still need three more neutral blocks and probably will move some little block around.

This afternoon we participate to the 110th anniversary of the lighthouse. isn't it beautiful?

Now that I have finished my DJ I'll have more time to focus on other projects I started. Here are the latest blocks I sewed for the Civil War Block of the Week.

This is the October block for the Bloggers BOM...

This will be a wallhanging I am sewing for my son's mother in law as a Christmas present...I just add a border around it and machine quilt (first time for me!).

Block for my October partner in the 12" group for the Australian Block Swap. All those blocks are on their way to Australia.

Lots of different blocks, fabrics, sizes but most important thing....LOT OF FUN!!!

It's Blogger Quilt Festival again and this time I finally finished my Dear Jane to enter!!:):)

Here the story: on a sunny Summer afternoon in 2009 I met with some quilting friends and one of them had the Dear Jane book. I had already seen this quilt and always thought it was crazy! We started looking at the book and no one was sewing that afternoon, we were to fascinated from all those beautiful little blocks. Fascinated and scared...Back home I started searching more informations about it...and looking, looking I decided to assume the challenge! Ordered the book and fabrics and started my DJ journey. And here is the final result!!!

Some more informations about my Dear Jane:
Fabrics used: Mendhi from Free Spirit, Benartex, Makover,Liberty and scraps from my friend Susan. background fabric is shadow play from Maywood Studios.
Pieces: 169 squares with 3501 pieces of fabric
Sashing: 364 pieces of fabric
Cornerstones: 196 pieces of fabric
Little border squares: 284 pieces of fabric
Border triangles: 168 pieces of fabric
Border stripes: 10 pieces of fabric
Binding: 5 pieces of fabric
TOTAL PIECES OF FABRIC: 4528

Techniques: the blocks are machine pieced, appliquéed, paper pieced.
The entire quilt was hand quilted and assembled with the Quilt as you go method.

Quilt started 5th of August 2009
Quilt finished 20th of October 2011

Appliqué block-QBSA

Hi friends,

today I'll show you the steps to my first appliqué creation. Later, when I get it, I'll make a PDF for you to download. The block is for my September swap partner Robyn. She asked for a block with a tea pot, cup and saucer o mugs. I decided for a tea pot and started looking around in blogland, when I realized that I have a very nice tea pot in my house. So I decided to try my own design.

Week-end almost finished. Tomorrow alarm clock at 06.30!!!! Valentino gets back to school and normal live is starting again...The good thing is that it is my birthday and we will go to Furnas to take a hot bath, have a nice lunch and spend a relaxing day. WOW!!

Hi dear friends,

I have been silent but not inactive! I managed to catch up my blocks for the Australian block swap. Here is my block for the 12" group to Robyn. It is my first ever Grandmothers Fan and it was fun sewing it!!!

Next two blocks are for Sue, our lovely group coordinator, she was my August partner for the 6" group.

And the last block is the one I made for the group quilt we (Flickr group) are making for Barbara Brackman to thank her for the great work she is doing posting every week a Civil War block and its history. You can have a look at her blog here.

Block swap Australia

Hi friends,

lucky me!! Yesterday and today the postman was an angel an I received two parcels from Australia. Yesterday the first one came from Vanessa, my July partner, with two beautiful Friendship Star blocks and some little extra gifts.

The second came from our coordinator Sue, ma August partner. Two more gorgeous blocks and some fabric scraps. She was so fast!

All the blocks are just perfect! Next week I will sew my August blocks for the 6" and the 12" groups.

Civil War block of the week

Hi dear friends,

another lovely block for the Civil War quilt. I made the same block for my Dear Jane quilt, block B3 Mirror Image. Here is my version.

Step one: cut four 2 1/2" squares for the block and cut four 2" squares for the center (my blocks are 4" finished size).

Step two: sew them together in two four patch blocks.

Step three: baste the paper circle on the little four patch block, cut to size.

Step four: baste the circle on the four patch block, make little cuts on the curved side, needle turn appliqué.

Step five: FINISHED!!

Easy and lovely :) Another block done, number 33.

Hi friends,

Yesterday it was a busy day, with guests living and new ones coming. But we managed to organize the day and have a look at the monthly flea market (we missed it on June and July!!). This is what we found.... a beautiful big handmade old tipical plate. It measures 14"/36cm and it is a fantastic centerpiece on our dining table.

I love the very simple but elegant and timeless design!

Civil War block of the week

Hi friends,

this weeks block for the Civil War Quilt is a very nice block but not an easy one! Carolina Lily has diamonds and set in seams.... Since I sew my blocks 4" it was difficult for me to redraw it, so I decided for a lazy and easy way to do it:)

First step: version 1 and the easy version 2.

Second step: cutting fabrics.

Third step: how it looks?

Fourth step: finished!

I love it and I'm satisfied with the result.

Hi friends!

today it is very hot and humid here, but I decided to do some sewing.....not the best idea!! I only did this block for my 6" swap partner Vanessa.

Later this afternoon the postman brought this lovely block for me. It comes from my July partner Helen from the 12" group swap.

I love it sooo much!!! And here you can see all the blocks I got so far. 8 already! Very soon I can start and think about sashing, probably only in Fall, when the temperature is lower and the work less.

New guest room

Hi friends,

during the last days we were very busy finishing and decorating the new guest room. Sunday we will have the first guest (friends) coming.

I made some new cushions for it. The shabby bedside table was an odd pine thing I inherited from my aunt and it allways was around the house. In 15 minutes with just a little splash of paint (dry brush) and new handels it is a new and cute bedside table.

And this is the finished guest room....

Now I hope to have some free time to chatch up with my UFO's, Civil War block, Dear Jane, Block swap ....so many things....

Block swap chatching up

Hi friends,

this morning I was able to solve some little misunderstanting with my swap partners (thank you Sue for your help) and in the afternoon I managed to chatch up with the blocks I had to sew.

Heather was my June partner and she asked for a Log Cabin Block in blues and whites with a yellow center. Here it is....

Helen, my July partner wished a Star block in blue shades, so I did a Friendship Star. And here it is....

My last block for today is the one I did for Anna, my partner for June in the 6" group. Anna lives in the Netherlands, so I hope the block won't take too long to fly to her. She asked for a 9 patch block in warm autumn colors. And here it is....

Now I think I will have a nap and later pick up Valentino from his summer school.

This and That

Hi dear friends,

tonight we have been to the building site and here you can see new pictures of the house in progress. It is growing fast. Last week we spent a day looking for tiles, kitchen and bathroom furniture.

In between I found a little time to sew the blocks for my Civil War quilt. Here are the last four blocks.

I also sewed the last Dear Jane border and I am hand quilting it, slowly, slowly.

A few weeks ago we had new babies in our backyard. six little geese. Here they are with mom, dad and older brother or sister.

Aren't they cute? Mom and dad are walking around like bodyguards and nobody can approach them!

And last but not least a funny snap from a nice guest. Hugo the aries with his babies.

BLOGGERS QUILT FESTIVAL - SPRING 2011

I am really happy to participate to the Spring Bloggers Quilt Festival, organized by Amy's Creative Side!

I sewed this quilt about three years ago. It is a One Block Wonder. For a long time I admired them and always thought that they were very difficult to do.

Finally I ordered the book and discovered that they are not difficult at all! At that time a friend of mine had lost her husband and she was quite depressive, so I asked her if she wanted to join me and work together. Each of us did one One Block Wonder Quilt and since then we meet once a week to work together.

It was fun to work on this quilt. I loved to compose my own desing with the different hexagons. I handquilted it. It hangs on my bedroom and I like to look at it before I sleep.

QBSA - May block for Maria

Hi friends,

here is a sneak peek of my block for Maria. She is my partner for the month of May. She asked for eye spy fabrics. I never did one like that and even didn't know what it is. After looking around in blogland I found informations about. I really enjoyed sewing it, looking that every piece of fabric had an interesting bit to look at.

Now I have to sew the May block for Marie, but first I need some white fabric. Can you believe that I don't have white fabric?

Flea market and new house

finally yesterday we decided to go to the flea market and I found 11 cute little crib figures. I suppose they are spanish or portuguese and probably quite old. I loved their little round faces.

Today it is a very important day to us. We started with the building of our new house. Have a look at my page new house, where I post pictures of the building process.

Hi friends,

1st of May and here in Portugal it is Mother Day. This is the lovely present I got from my little Valentino.

He made this beautiful bracelet at school and I really love it!

Here are the last three blocks I made for the Civil War block of the week.

And here another possible layout for the blocks. After some days of musing and looking at the design wall, I came out with this solution. I quite like it and think that with more blocks it will look nice. The layout will be 10 by 10 blocks. I really enjoy Saturdays waiting for the next block.

Every Saturday I sew 4 set in blocks to catch up, next week I'll be there and each further week I have just two blocks to sew.

Today we have flea market too, but I'm not shure we'll go, the weather is not very nice. If we go and find some treasure I'll post it.

Hi friends,

here is a sneek peak of my blocks to Doris. She is my swap partner for April in the Quilt block swap Australia. I hope she likes them. Next week they will fly from the Azores to Australia.

Next I show you another layout for my Civil War Blocks of the week with the neutral blocks. I am not shure if they stay out enough. Probably I should add more blocks, next week I will have time. What is your opinion?

Hi friends,

before I start working on the new block for my civil war BOW I would like to show you my weeks work.

First the layout for the side border of my Dear Jane quilt:

and third a litte wall quilt I try to finish:

the spools are 2" and hand sewed. Thursday I added the border and soon will sandwich it and start the quilting.

it was quiet this week on my blog. We were busy with meetings and other stuff, but now Valentino has Easter holidays and we will have more time. Here some pictures of the week.

Hi friends,

today I will show you the process of assembling the different sections of my DJ. Actually I am working on the last assembling of the top. The next step will be preparing the side borders.

Sewing together the sections.

Measuring 1" of fabric to fold to the opposite.

Ready to fold.

Pinned in place. Now I just have to hand sew the seam.

Hi friends,

Here I will show some of my slow work progress. First my Dear Jane. I added the buttom border to the sections 7-8-9. Next step is putting all this together, ending up with the top, without the side border, so I will have the exact measurement for them.

Then I made block 13 for my Civil War BOW. It is a cute little basket, I really loved sewing this nice block.

I already have my new April swap partner for the quilting block swap Australia and next week I will work on her block.

Sunday afternoon, windy, sunny, rainy weather. After washing a mountain of dishes left from our Saturday dinner with friends, I decided to start the 12th block for the Civil War BOW. Here it is:

Today I managed to finish my block for the Civil War BOW.

I made my first two blocks for the 6" Block Swap Australia. My very nice partner is Medora from Canada. I enjoyed to know her and to sew this two blocks for her. I hope she likes them.

Our puppies Bianca and Brownie have a new home. With our last one Rex I had to fight with myself. Can I keep him or not?, was the big question. We already have 2 dogs, 5 cats and manymore....

But... I couldn't resist, he is to cute and sweet. So the family agreed :)

Good morning friends!

I hope you started this new week with the right spirit! Yesterday we visited our monthly flea market (after a break in January and February). Here are the new treasures we found. These are very old bowls the used here, they are in perfect conditions. The little cone is to hang on the wall and put flowers in it.

It was cold and windy there, but we were luky to find this treasures!

Hi friends,

my DJ was waiting for a few time to be worked on. Today we had a grey and foggy day, so I decided to sew on the top border to the first third of the quilt (by hand). Here is the result.

Now I have to finish the quilting on the bottom border (almost done), add it to the 3rd part of the quilt and join them. Then start with the side borders (I already started).

BATIK CIVIL WAR BOW

Hi friends!
Sunday I had an inspiration and decided to look after my batik stash. I was lucky to find a lot of different batiks. Here they are.

What did I do with them? I decided to try the Civil War BOW blocks in batik. Here are the first four I made. I have to say that I really love them.

I started my week-end very lucky. I got my February block from my Swap partner Crafty Pug! Lovely, lovely!

I got a fabric scrap too and Valentino got beautiful stamps for his collection. So here is her block.

I really enjoyed doing this wonky star. I probably will try to do some more wonky blocks: houses, log cabin, stars... Do you know more I could do?

This morning I really thought I get crazy with block 5!! It took me 2 hours to do just the first tiny little square. I had to adjust some measurements and then my sewing machine didn't want to cooperate... After 2 hours I gave it a last chance and finally I got it! Here is the first little square, 3 more to do...

A few days ago I discovered the Civil War Block of the Week and thought that they were very interesting. So I decided to try following them. Last year I bought a lot of Civil War fabrics and this is the perfect project for them
I decided to do them 4" instead of the 8" original, because since I made my DJ I love little blocks.

LITTLE PROJECT

during the Christmas time my eldest son Andrea was visiting us with his girlfriend Fabrizia and his little son Kevin (my grandson). She started to show a little interest in my sewing and so we decided to start a little project for her. She never did anything. Here is the result, I think it is very pretty and hope that she enjoyed the process.

Now they are back home in Switzerland and we already miss them! Next time I'll post some pictures of them.
